Sir Harry is one of the pioneers in the development of the internal combustion engine and this is his classic work on the I.C. engine. This book was originally published in 1923 and has been periodically updated through the years with the last update taking place in 1968. Since then, the book has been reprinted by the engineering outfit he founded - Ricardo Consulting Engineers plc - so as to make his authoritative work available once again to a new generation of engineers. This work includes developments in fuels, mechanical design and integration of components to name a few. This is a work of such value, no mechanical engineer should be without it!!!

Obsolete or not, this is a "Must Have" for anyone that wants a full understanding of the internal combustion engine. It is a unique opportunity to see the methodology that provided the stepping stones that we used to advance the science. It deserves a place on the shelf.

Toward the end of World War II, as Germany's hold on East Prussia grows increasingly tenuous, a childhood friendship between Manya Von Falken, the daughter of an aristrocratic family, and Joshi Karas, a Romani doctor, blossoms into unlikely love. But the young lovers are torn apart.

Captured by the Nazis and sent to a concentration camp, Joshi fights for survival, while Manya and her family flee and embark on ''The Great Trek'' out of East Prussia. Based on true stories passed down to author Marina Gottlieb Sarles from her grandparents, survivors of the trek, The Last Daughter of Prussia also tells the story of the brave Trakehner horses who led their owners across a dangerous frozen lagoon, the only open escape route.

About the Author
Raised in the Bahamas, the daughter of German immigrant parents, Marina Gottlieb Sarles was a practicing physical therapist and energy healer for more than 20 years before drawing on her storytelling skills to write her first book, Sand in My Shoes: A Collection of Island Stories. She has been published in the Macmillan Caribbean anthology, Under the Perfume Tree, and ESPN produced a special feature based on one of her short stories. Her essay, Auschwitz, Stutthof and Remembrance, was featured in the online magazine, Wild River Review. Marina and her husband and son live on Grand Bahama Island and spend a lot of time boating in the Abaco cays.

Wow, what a wild ride

I absolutely loved reading this book. It is told with such beauty yet, it is also very real and even shocking. It had to be told honestly but with such interesting character studies, it just flowed. This book would be such an amazing movie. I am so caught up in their lives , I want more!

A Compelling Story of the Prussian People in World War II

I recently read this book, and it was a very rewarding experience. While I have been a student of World War II, I was not aware of the plight of the Prussian people. It is important that we know this story in order to have a more complete picture of the horror of that devastating conflict and of war in general. The author, Marina Gottlieb Sarles, is a wonderful storyteller. She held my interest from beginning to end.

A riveting story of love and war

This novel is a page turner, and a chapter of WWII history that I had not known about. It is gripping--haunting even--and equal parts beautiful and heart wrenching. Well written, the author has a way of making you feel as if you've visited this vanished land of East Prussia and its quiet elegance, and also leaves you riveted in terror in the midst of a harrowing escape trek. This historical story, although based on diaries from the author's grandparents, is also timely in today's world ... both a moving reminder of the horrors of war, and ultimately a story of compassion and love and survival that is simply unforgettable.
