Deceptively Short Yet Powerful Book on Negotiation Techniques

This deceptively short book is crammed full of immediately actionable content from one of today's masters at selling. Settle specializes in marketing via email, and seems to have a thriving business built around that. This short book reveals a baker's dozen of "secret" negotiation methods, that while short and to the point, nonetheless deliver in clear terms how and when to apply them. Ben also references, frequently, other masters of the trade from whom he readily admits he acquired the techniques.
While some might feel that paying three bucks for such a short book is a bad deal, that's probably the same people who think three bucks is an outrageous amount. If you're in that camp, then you really need to spend those three bucks on this book, and apply the techniques. If you do, then pretty soon you'll realize three bucks won't even get you a coffee at Starbucks these days, which won't make you any money, while this book will.
I read this book inside an hour, and only because I took the time to mull over some of Ben's crystal clear lessons and examples. There is nothing overly secret, despite the title, nor are there any ninja techniques. Ben isn't about that. All of these are down to Earth methods that apply psychology as a lever with which to get your way. I look forward to applying the techniques I didn't already know starting today, and the refresher on those that I had been aware of didn't hurt. Oh, and there's a link or two to additional content that I look forward to reviewing, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Many on-target negotiating principles we all can benefit from.

First, I did find some good principles of negotiating -- and being negotiated with -- in this short book. His counsel about listening more than talking and releasing the prospect's pressure are excellent. Give your prospect "the right to veto" is on target. About six or seven really strong principles that will help you, as they did me. I've been a writer in several fields over the last 40 years, including copy writing and promotion for an international firm. But I still find some useful advice.
But here's the problem. An experienced writer in any field would not make so many common grammatical errors -- he would at least get an editor to correct his copy. The writer wouldn't try so hard yp use what he considers everyday communication, and sometimes winds up just being "cute." "You know of what I speaketh, right?" Uses the "eth" form too many times. Or "methinks" and "stoopid sales tricks" type of cuteness.
So this book is an anomaly to me. That is, I can't imagine that the author, the renowned copy writer Ben Settle, wrote and edited it. I've checked into his web site which is much better written. But here's the kicker. This is a short book of 499 "locations" or about 39 pages. About 135 "locations" or 28% of the book is "Disclosures and Disclaimers" -- plus the copyright pages. Much of this is a total waste of words and space. A to-the-point copy writer wouldn't allow such a waste.
